This CLE discusses common title issues that arise from bankruptcies, divorces, and estate planning, and how those mistakes can be avoided. We will first look at a bankruptcy’s potential impact on land, through an examination of the Federal Bankruptcy Code. Then, we will review how marriage and divorce can affect ownership of real property. Finally, we will examine common estate planning tools, such as wills, trusts, and beneficiary deeds (transfer on death deeds), and their consequences on real estate.

About our speaker: Lindee Deshler, underwriting counsel with Old Republic Title, is a title industry veteran, with years of experience as both claims and underwriting counsel. She attended Truman State University and obtained her law degree and History Master’s from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. Her Master’s thesis, “Smoke and Mirrors: A History of NAGPRA and the Evolving U.S. View of the American Indian”, focuses on Native American artifact acquisition and repatriation. Lindee is licensed to practice law in Missouri and Nebraska and has her title professional designation in Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska.

This program has been approved for 1.0 hour of CLE credit in Kansas and Missouri.
