The University of Missouri School of Law in Columbia invites applications for the position of Assistant Dean for Admissions and Financial Aid. Primary responsibilities will include performing research and analysis regarding legal and regulatory issues affecting the Bank; reviewing, drafting and editing documents; and, providing legal advice and training to management and staff on issues such as:

Position Title: General Counsel


Definition of Work: This position performs the highest level attorney work for the Supreme Court and provides legal advice, counsel and assistance to the Judges of the Court, the Clerk of the Supreme Court of Missouri and related offices and committees. This position also serves as the assistant to the Supreme Court under section 565.035, RSMo.


Salary/Benefits: Starting salary range $99,312 to $113,424 annually depending on experience and qualifications. This position is an employee of the state of Missouri and eligible for full benefits and leave accruals provided through the state.


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Graduation from an accredited law school and at least five years of experience in the practice of law or equivalent experience as a licensed attorney. Must possess a current license to practice law in the State of Missouri or ability to obtain same within one year of appointment.

Job Duties:

  • Responsible for working with the other attorney team and staff members of the County Counselor office to provide support for, share knowledge and help on handling the work of the Office of the County Counselor so that all of the work  of the office is addressed in a timely professional manner.
  • Responsible for the initiation, prosecution and defense of civil litigation on behalf of Jackson  County, including but not limited to, defense of civil claims brought against Jackson County, Merit Commission cases, Board of Equalization hearings, State Tax Commission hearings, and other civil matters.
  • Provides guidance, legal advice and assistance to County departments, directors and staff regarding civil matters and human resource issues, personnel rules and employment law.
  • Provides supervision to paralegals and support staff with regard to projects that staff has been assigned by the management team to work on with the attorney.
  • Reports to County Counselor and Management Team.

 Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a Juris Doctorate degree, be a member of the Missouri Bar and have at least eight years of progressively responsible experience in municipal, and civil law.
  • Must have first chair trial experience in civil law cases.
  • The experience to step in and try civil law cases to a judge or jury in state and federal court as first chair is required.

Legal Aid seeks a full-time staff attorney for its Public Benefits Unit to provide legal representation to people with public benefit issues regarding Medicaid, Food Stamps, and Temporary Assistance and benefits administered by the Social Security Administration.  The attorney in this position will represent clients in administrative, judicial and legislative forums.  The attorney will also handle grant reporting, act as a point of contact with our community partners, and perform other duties as assigned.  This is a full-time position housed in our Central Office in Kansas City, Missouri.
