Position Title: Law Clerk

Term: Either for a term ending July 30, 2020, or a permanent position.

Definition of Work: Judge Patricia Breckenridge of the Supreme Court of Missouri has an immediate opening for the position of Law Clerk. Duties include legal research, preparation of memoranda on motions, applications for transfers and petitions for extraordinary writs, and preparation of draft opinions, as well as other duties as assigned.

LITIGATION ATTORNEY - SHELTER INSURANCE (Posted 3/15/2019)

ATTORNEY/REGULATORY LAW JUDGE (Posted 3/5/2019)


The Missouri Public Service Commission is seeking an attorney for the position of Regulatory Law Judge. This is a quasi-judicial, administrative law judge position that requires the ability to preside over adversarial hearings which may last from 1 to 15 consecutive days on the record that routinely involve from 10 to 80 complex economic, engineering, and accounting issues, which include a minimum of 3 but often more than 10 or 12 adverse parties, and where the amount in dispute will often be millions of dollars. In addition to presiding over complex litigation, the successful candidate will independently control a docket of cases from the Telecommunications, Electric, Gas, Water, and Sewer industries and review extensive pleadings, written expert testimony, briefs, and other case-related documents in the preparation of final Commission orders. The judge must work effectively within a panel of six other judges and for a five-member Commission. This requires the ability to provide sound legal analysis and well-drafted documents under demanding deadlines.

QUALIFICATIONS: Five years of experience in administrative law, regulatory law, or government practice. Applicant must be a member of the Missouri Bar and must demonstrate excellent reasoning and writing skills. The salary for a Regulatory Law Judge is $62,020. Legal Aid of Western Missouri is seeking a full time staff attorney in the Warrensburg, Missouri office.  The Staff Attorney for Legal Assistance for Victims will represent victims of domestic violence in domestic cases, including dissolutions of marriage, custody, guardianships, juvenile matters and orders of protection.  The position may also include additional case work in civil matters such as housing, public benefits, consumer rights, unemployment or educational law and other actions that will assist the survivor and his or her family in freeing themselves from their abuser.

 

The main duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:  maintain a caseload, quantity to be determined by the Supervising and/or Managing Attorney; represent clients as necessary and within legal restrictions in administrative, judicial, and legislative forums; trial preparation and in-court appearances will be required along with administrative duties; undertake community legal education or outreach activities as designated by the Supervising and/or Managing Attorney; provide assistance to Volunteer Attorney Project (VAP) attorneys as required; and participate in training programs designed to increase knowledge and skills development.

ASSISTANT CITY ATTORNEY POSITIONS:  The City of Kansas City, Missouri City Attorney’s office is seeking applicants for two assistant city attorney positions for litigation.    Please apply at www.kcmo.gov/careers.

 

The City Attorney’s Office handles cases involving torts, contracts, tax, constitutional claims, and employment discrimination and other civil rights claims.  A litigation attorney in our office frequently appears in court, including serving as first chair in jury and bench trials before state and federal courts. The attorney will be responsible for his or her own cases from the initial filing of the petition or complaint, through the appellate process.

 

The attorney hired for either position will have the opportunity for career advancement and to handle more complex litigation as more experience is gained.   The attorney will also provide advice to the Mayor and City Council, City boards and commissions, and the professional staff.  The office comprises fifty attorneys and twenty-two support staff.  The starting salary is $59,340 per year, plus excellent benefits.
