As a member benefit, AWL supports its members through nominations for awards sponsored by various organizations and associations. Examples include awards sponsored by The Missouri Bar, Kansas Bar Association, Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, Missouri Lawyers Weekly, Kansas City Business Journal, American Bar Association, National Conference of Women Bar Associations, among others.

Selection Process.  Nominations are vetted by the Awards & Scholarship Committee, which is comprised of current AWL members, past AWL presidents, and past and current AWL Board members.  Recommendations of the Committee are presented to the AWL Board for approval prior to a nomination being submitted on behalf of AWL.

Nomination Process. A call for nominations for specific awards is distributed via email with the nomination to be submitted to the current Chair or Vice Chair of Awards & Scholarship.  AWL accepts peer nominations, as well as self-nominations.  Members may request that AWL nominate for an award that has not received a call for nominations nor been supported in the past by contacting the current Chair of the Awards & Scholarship Committee.

Scholarships

Every spring, AWL awards the annual Roxanne Barton Conlin Scholarship to a female law student who will be entering her second or third year of law school the following fall.  In addition to a monetary scholarship award, the recipient also receives an AWL membership fee waiver as a student and for the first three years of practice.

Selection Process.  Scholarship applications are vetted by the Awards & Scholarship Committee, which is comprised of current AWL members, past AWL presidents, and past and current AWL Board members.  The Committee evaluates all applicants to select a recipient who has distinguished herself through academics, community service, and involvement in activities promoting women.

Application Process.  Applications are distributed each spring to the administration and career services office of the surrounding law schools.  Applications may also be requested by contacting the current Vice Chair of the Awards & Scholarship Committee. Completed current year applications and all supporting materials must be submitted to the Vice Chair of the Awards & Scholarship Committee by the stated deadline.

Award Process. The selected scholarship recipient will be recognized at the spring AWL Judicial Reception.  All current year scholarship applicants are invited to attend the reception.  Click HERE for the 2017 scholarship application. The deadline to apply is March 15, 2017!
